With over 90 years of experience, Bosch has developed braking components formulated for safety and durability. Bosch QuietCast Brake Pads perform better than OE in all major categories - noise, pad life and rotor wear. The friction material utilizes an advanced aerospace aluminum alloy to extend pad life. Vulcanized rubber core multi-layer shims deliver virtually noise free braking. Powder-coated backing plates prevent rust and corrosion. When I was MUCH younger I worked at a gas station/garage. One day I had a tire repair on a 1960s Dodge. I plugged in the air wrench...and immediately snapped off a wheel stud. I thought that was strange but still proceeded to snap off a second stud. Not wishing to break anything else, I soaked the remaining lug nuts with my favorite spray lube. My boss came in and asked me why I was spraying the lug nuts. I explained the lugs were obviously rusted and needed some help. |
It is always nice when I can use DIY knowledge I learned about forty years ago to repair a new high-tech vehicle. The parking brake was recently slipping on my 2014 Dodge Challenger. I discovered adjusting its parking brake was as easy as adjusting the drum brakes on an antique car. The parking brake on many vehicles with rear disc brakes is essentially a small drum brake inside the portion of the brake rotor ("hat") that fits over the wheel hub. Instead of rubbing against the inside of a brake drum, the parking brake shoes rub against the inside of the brake rotor hat. Just like with classic drum brakes, the parking brake pads are moved closer to or further away from the brake rotor hat surface by turning the star-shaped wheel on an adjusting screw. The adjusting screw star-shaped wheel is typically accessed by removing a rubber plug from an opening on the brake rotor hat or from an opening on the back side of the parking brake assembly and wheel hub. Consult your vehicle's repair manual (found under "Literature" at RockAuto.com) for specific instructions on how far to turn the parking brake adjusting screw. Typically a screwdriver is used to spin the star-shaped wheel until the parking brake shoes prevent the wheel/hub from turning and then the star-shaped wheel is turned back the other direction until the parking brake shoes are only brushing against the inside of the brake rotor hat. Usually the adjusting screws on the left and right side of the vehicle are turned opposite directions to move the brake shoes in or out. Some parking brake designs use the rear brake calipers rather than mini-drum brakes. See the parts that make up your specific vehicle's parking brake system under "Brake & Wheel Hub" in the RockAuto.com catalog. I purchased this 1986 Pontiac Fiero in 2015 for $100 pulling it from a field were it had languished since the 90s. It was in need of complete restoration with rat infested interior, blown engine and damaged body, along with the expected degradation of a car sitting that long in the elements. RockAuto has been my go to for the restoration parts on this car including complete braking system (pads, rotors, calipers, master cylinder, lines, etc.), all suspension components (bushings, shocks, struts, tie rods, ball joints, etc.), engine rebuild parts (gaskets, sensors, wiring pigtails, internal components, ignition system, etc.), power equipment (headlight motors, window motors, etc.), fuel system, exhaust components and more. RockAuto has been a game changer in my other restorations as well! This Fiero is now my daily driver, and I have been commuting over 150 miles per day. She has 235,000 miles and counting! I continue to rely on RockAuto for my maintenance needs, which when driving this much are essential to keep this car reliable. Thank you for making it easier to get parts for my classics and keeping the cost down! Thank You, |
