E3 Premium Spark Plugs at Wholesaler Closeout Prices!

See what we have from E3 Spark Plugs

Do not be caught unprepared for the first blast of winter weather this year. Stock up on the perfect stocking stuffer for all of your loved ones. RockAuto now has E3 Premium Spark Plugs at Wholesaler Closeout prices!

A large auto parts chain bought more spark plugs than they needed, resulting in another great RockAuto Wholesaler Closeout bargain. E3 Premium Spark Plugs are currently available for everything from a 1986 Ford Mustang to a 2007 Toyota Tacoma to a 2010 Porsche 911. As with all Wholesaler Closeouts, quantities are limited. Our E3 plugs are about 30+% less than even "sale" prices at other parts stores.

The unique E3 Spark Plug design offers several benefits. Most original equipment (OE) spark plugs create a flame shape that moves sideways (outward from the electrode). Thanks to E3's diamond-shaped electrode, the flame kernel shoots directly toward the air/fuel mixture leading to higher combustion pressure. This in turn allows for a better burn and the combusted mixture exhausts more easily. E3 test results report 4-12% more power, 3-13% better fuel economy and up to 58% lower emissions depending on the engine and the OE plugs. Additionally, E3 plugs are built to perform for 5 years/100,000 miles! Find spark plugs for your specific vehicle under the "Ignition" category in the RockAuto catalog.

Repair Mistakes & Blunders

Ouch!

My 2006 Kia Sportage with 105K miles was in need of brake pads and rotors. I ordered the parts from RockAuto and set to the task. During inspection, I noted the caliper mounting brackets were rusty, so I removed them to clean and reinstall.

I enlisted the help of my son to aid in completion of the project. When everything was put back together and tightened down (so it seemed), we went out for a victory drive.

One week later, we were on a long road trip. Deep in the night, an increasingly loud groan began coming from the right front wheel. An exit was one mile ahead, so I drove on slowly. Alas, prior to the exit, the car would go forward no longer. But it would go backward a few feet in reverse. On the side of the road at 3 AM is not the ideal auto repair environment! We took the wheel off to find that the caliper mounting bracket had broken away and lodged in the wheel toward the forward direction! The remaining bolt (1 of 2) had sheared off and the nub was still screwed in the bracket.

Then I remembered that I meant to go back and torque all the bolts to specifications at the completion of the assembly. My conclusion is that perhaps I neglected this important step on the right front caliper mounting bracket bolts. Now I torque each bolt as I tighten...ALWAYS!

Smoke Coming Out of the Vents!

RockAuto

"Dad, there is smoke coming out of the vents!" Cooler weather meant I had just turned on the heat and a mist of engine coolant was scaring the kids and filming up the windshield. My '79 Chrysler needed another heater core. I felt better about repeating a repair when I remembered the car got its last heater core 25 years ago. Time flies!

The heater core looks like a mini radiator and transfers heat from the engine coolant to the interior of the car. Coolant dripping from under the dash, coolant odor and fogged up (slimy feeling) windows are all signs that the heater core is leaking.

Older cars typically have a heater valve that shuts off the flow of hot coolant to the heater core when the heat is off. Newer cars may not have that valve. Pressurized coolant always flows through the heater core. Blend doors determine if hot or cold air makes it into the vehicle's interior. That means on newer cars a leaking heater core may become apparent any time of the year.

Spectra Premium Heater Core
Typical heater core
Heater cores on some very old cars are accessible from under the hood. Just disconnect the heater hoses, remove a cover and pull out the leaking heater core. Heater cores on cars built since the 1980s are usually only accessible from inside the car. Look under "Literature" in the RockAuto catalog to buy repair manuals with heater core installation instructions for your specific vehicle.

A new heater core may fail quickly if electrolysis is occurring in the cooling system. Electrolysis usually happens when there is a faulty electrical ground connection somewhere on the engine. Electrolysis ionizes and acidifies the coolant, which causes metal to be removed from the heater core. The result is pinhole leaks. Electrolysis might be reduced by installing a ground wire between the heater core and the car body. Remove corrosion and make sure existing ground straps in the engine compartment have good (low resistance/ohms) electrical connections. Also be sure to replace the engine coolant at least as often as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

New heater cores by ACDelco, APDI/PRO, Four Seasons, Spectra Premium, TYC and other respected manufacturers are found under "Heat & Air Conditioning" in the RockAuto catalog.

Vinny's 1984 El Camino
Vinny's 1984 El Camino

I have owned my 1984 El Camino since 2012. She was someone's daily driver/work car, but I envisioned her potential. Mismatched rims and tires, transmission missing second gear, dented and missing chrome, fluids leaking from everywhere, brakes grinding, chipped and scratched paint...yes, she was a little rough. I replaced all the steering and front end bushings, tie rods, center link, stabilizer links, brake pads, rotors, bearings, coolant hoses, belts, the front and rear shocks and so much more with parts from RockAuto. The El Camino has also been repainted. I couldn't have done it without RockAuto!

Thank You,
